What is the best workout ever?
I’m going to make you read a little to find out!
I never thought I would say this—I have been a runner for twelve years now. A few of my still-best friends are responsible for coercing me—I mean encouraging me—to run with them all those years ago. I admit—it was not love at first mile. Or second. But eventually I came to love everything about it.
I loved the feeling and the sense of accomplishment. I loved setting mileage goals or pace goals. I of course loved the endorphin rush when I was done. I loved the sense of community among runners.
Let’s fast-forward through the next few years. Through college I also fell in love with a Yoga class, step aerobics (does that fact age me?), and the stair-climber at the gym. Then, pre-kids, I loved to get my sweat on at the gym, Jazzercise classes, and still loved to run.
Then kids entered my life.
Things had to change *just*a bit.
Enter Beachbody. The king of at-home workouts. And let me digress a little. Ahhhhhh Beachbody. LOVE the company, do not love the name. There are SO many great things they provide—from every type and intensity of workout for beginners through advanced athletes, there is something for every body. I love being aligned with a company that gives so much, that has so many solutions for people wanting to get and stay active and I SO applaud them for the addition of a video-based SIMPLE, nutrition plan.
I obviously have many friends, clients, and success stories from Beachbody products. I could sing their praises all day, and not just in terms of weight loss. I have seen so many people discover their own strength, their confidence, and of course meet fitness goals.
But come on—it’s 2018. Yes America is overweight and undernourished and I pray I am helping others to find their potential to get to their healthiest and happiest, BUT, the name sounds like it is only about how your body looks. Now, I don’t expect them to change their name. All I’m saying is I think we all agree that the main goal is to help everyone find their way to better health.
So, their name is their downfall, in my opinion. But how about another big pro? Like—not having to leave the house to get in a workout. This is a huge plus for anyone far from a gym, or pinching pennies (aren’t we all) or simply too intimidated to work out at a gym. OR, on the other hand, you can take the workouts TO the gym with you if you have not invested in workout equipment of your own.
Moving On
How about BBG? Another great program, maybe not so great name (it stands for Bikini Body Guide). Again, simple workouts that bring fitness to people of all abilities and starting points. Their strong point is helping everyone feel successful, no matter what level they are starting out at. I have a good friend who does these workouts because she has two small children, is crazy-busy as a ranch wife and working on her awesome blog (the workouts are just half an hour, three times a week), and lives far from a gym or workout classes.
And how about my bad-ass fitness friend who has done several Beachbody workout programs with me, but also loves going to the gym and making her own weight-lifting and tabata routines? Her and her husband know the value of fitness in all forms—they are a very active family.
What about my friend who is a fitness class instructor, but is also a phenomenal runner? Her self-proclaimed fitness philosophy is “I got off my ass.”
My sister runs—she has three kids so many of her runs are super-early in the morning with a friend or pushing a jogging stroller. It’s her “me time.” Her kids love to go with her, to ride their bikes, walk, watch her run races. She knows the value of fitness not just for herself but for setting an example for her kids.
I think by now you are getting the picture that I support any and all aspects and forms of movement. I could list hundreds of friends. Friends who swim, dance, rodeo, lift weights, go to group fitness classes, hit up Orange Theory Fitness, etc. I have many friends who are group fitness class instructors so they can share their love of fitness with others.
So, do you know the answer to my question yet?
The best workout ever is the one you will DO!! The one that makes you feel good! The one that is sustainable for YOUR life.
I hope I have left you knowing that I am here to support you in whatever form of movement of you choose. Because chances are that not only do I too like that same type of exercise, but I know the most important thing is not where you get your workout in, or if you do it alone or with a group, or stick with one favorite or incorporate a big variety depending on your season of life but that you do it!
XOXO
